Northern Rehabilitation

April 2023 Issue

In April 2024, we look at the stress in our lives and find ways to manage it. We take an indepth look at The Calming Center of Mount Airy, a state-of-the-art counseling center that strives to make their clients feel at home. Our own stress is put into perspective in The Things That Matter. We embrace tradition at The Second Annual Fried Apple Festival in Sparta, NC. In Fit Living, we examine the difference in motivation and discipline, and look at ways to cultivate discipline in our lives to meet our fitness goals. In Stress Management, we are reminded to take a break and go back to the things that used to bring us joy that we might’ve fallen out of during our busy lives. In Ask The Expert, we see how we cannot start over, but we can start nowand create a new ending for ourselves. In Simply Delicious, we look at how sheet-pan meals can take the stress out of dinner, like a Simple Sheet Pan Chicken and Vegetable meal. In The Sweet and Savory Life, we are given a simple recipe for a lemon cream tart. We are reminded to Pet Our Pets To Destress in Pets and Livestock. In Therapeutic Gardening, we look at the benefits of “digging in the dirt” on our mental well-being and are invited to participate in the local Extension Master Gardener volunteer programs to experience therapeutic gardening for ourselves. In Navigating Life, Traveler the horse reminds us to count our blessings when we feel stressed.

The Things That Matter

Sheri Wren Haymore Author SNAPSHOT: My eighth great-grandfather, Charles LaPierre, was a Huguenot minister who traveled across France preaching with a bounty on his head, even after his wife and her entire family were martyred. Eddie Lowe Just A Thought I remember studying in school about Ponce de León. It was said he came to Florida looking for the “fountain of youth,” a magical pool of water that would reverse the years. Sarah Southard, DVM Pets and Livestock Earlier today I had to make a dreaded shopping trip to a retailer that I would rather avoid when possible. Therapeutic Gardening

April 3, 2024

Joanna RadfordHome, Farm, & Garden An occupational hazard of mine is talking to people about gardening. Whether it be vegetable gardening or flower gardening, more times than not, the conversation expands to folks telling me how good they feel when they are playing in the soil, or better yet, “digging in the dirt.” This made…
